H for Hellblade (2018)
My gaming is often an escape into an alternative reality – and at present reality is frightening. However, this game allowed me to experience another real-life reality for some. I still need to re-visit Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice – but not at the moment.
On the other hand, exploring the literature and folklore behind this game was one of the reasons I began my investigation into the creative Origins of various On-line Games. I’ve been fascinated by Norse mythology and Viking culture for decades.
I will post about other games that were relevant in 2018 and still are meaningful.

I’m not going to check out this game now or I might get nothing done anymore. I’m just between two books and if I start gaming now, this whole lock-down period will get wasted on it. Perhaps later.

As an avid gamer, I have to treat it as a treat after I’ve done my daily writing etc., and before my gamer wife and I go to bed. So restricted playing time.

I so agree with you about Norse mythology (any mythology really) which is one of the reasons I snaffled up Neil Gaiman’s Norse Mythology shortly after it was published.
It very often inspires his stunning works.

I’ve yet to read ‘Norse Mythology’, although it’s on my Want to Read list, EC – along with other Neil Gaiman books.

He is one of my favourite authors. I really like both his and his wife’s approach to life too.

Not sure who his wife is – without delving. But he always inspires me when I read interviews. Loved ‘Good Omens’ – although, he co-authored that of course.

Gaming is definitely a good way to escape right now!

Totally, JS – although as my P post shows, games are sometimes the reverse. I’ve stopped playing two games recently that were too close to reality. In fact, ‘Hellblade’ was disturbing.

True. One of my friends decided this is a good time to replay the Resident Evil games. I don’t really see how that helps.
For me, I went with Mario: Odyssey. It’s about as far from the current reality as anything gets.
